One of the anonymous Russian artists’ letter responses to their individual understanding of Timofeeva’s philosophy
My work ‘The Russian Project: Writing with Russian artists about the Russian philosopher Oxana Timofeeva philosophy and her thoughts on collective responsibility’.
The work will be exhibited at ‘Corner Vest’ from 27/10-23 – 21/12-23 at Det Ny Kastet. From 2022, Corner has initiated a recurring collaboration with DNK and MK61.
The work is a philosophical, reflective and complex painting and mixed media installation with an element of citizen involvement. The installation will reflect the deep thoughts that one typically experiences when diving into the philosophy of the Russian philosopher Oxana Timofeeva. In addition, the anonymous Russian artists’ letter responses to their individual understanding of Timofeeva’s philosophy will create a dialogue with the audience.
Timofeeva’s philosophy and her books include ‘The History of Animals’, ‘Solar Politics’ and her most talked-about book right now, ‘How to Love a Homeland’ are relevant to the many cultural intellectual Russians today, but also to us from outside who all have a responsibility to promote dialogue with those Russians who also want peace and coexistence.
Timofeeva was born and raised in different parts of the USSR. The book ‘How to Love a Homeland’ explores the difficulty of having to reduce one’s sense of homeland to one’s country alone. Instead, Timofeeva opens up the possibility of experiencing our homeland as a movement and a connection to our plant and animal kingdom from the place we come from.
Timofeeva’s philosophy books are not lying around collecting dust, but with them in hand she verbally attacks Putin’s regime and unfolds her philosophical thoughts in all media. An overarching theme in Timofeeva’s philosophy is that we humans have a collective responsibility, whether it concerns the climate crisis or Russia’s failed war. She tells the Russians that they are all complicit in the war if they do not protest themselves.
